I'm very fascinated by Serge Kirchhofer alias Udo Proksch, genious and madness, one of the most controversery figures in eyewear history. He inventend the legendary "Carrera" shape and worked for brands like Dunhill and Porsche design. He was convicted for insurance fraud in the early 90ies and sentenced to 20 years in prison for the famous Lucona scandal. SK eyewear is very rare and a must for every collector.
Carrera was founded in Austria by Wilhelm Anger in 1956 and is famous for its sports eyewear. The name comes from "Carrera Panamerica" an automobil race held in Mexico. Anger also developed the "Optyl" material in 1964 and Carrera now was named "Optyl". In 1974 the company was renamed Carrera and together with Porsche developed the sunglass collection "Carrera Porsche design". 1969 Safilo acquired the brand. The name stands not only for a brand, but also for a shape - the legendary Carrera shape.
Playboy also gave his Bunny to eyewear in the 80ies and they became cult. People refer to these glasses as "Porno Brille". Playboy sunnies and glasses play a big role in vintage eyewear.
Metzler is a famous german brand that stands for the 70ies. Metzler sunglasses are the ones used in the criminal movies of those days. They also produced horn rimmed frames and stand for great quality.
